The Best Place Around UW to Get Food

While campus offers a various options to grab lunch or dinner, the plazas are were the options get really wild. The University Shops Plaza (yes, it has an official name!) alone houses over 20 restaurants of various size, cost, and quality. Where do you go when you got so much to choose from? We asked you to vote on the best places to get food around campus and here are the results.

1. Mel's Diner (14.66%)

Just on the other side of Phillip Street, Mel's diner is the go to place for many students to cure their Sunday morning hang overs. It was burnt down in 2010 (thanks, Taboo), but like a phoenix from the ashes, it rebuilt and reopen in May 2012. As you can guess, Mel's is famous for its greasy spoon all day breakfast. They also offer a good selection of lunch and dinner plates from Fish and Chips to Meatloaf to wraps and burgers. Pricing is average ($15  or less) but portions are huge. One plus is that they are opened 24 hours. Check them out here

2. Auntie's Kitchen (8.38%)

Auntie's serves up some serious Indian and Middle Eastern food out of a small but well decorated restaurant in the heart of the plaza. Their famous (self proclaimed) biryani, "lighter side" poutine, butter chicken, and shawarma will run you up anywhere from $8-$12 but it is well worth the price. Check their menu out here. 3.Sweet Dreams (8.2%)

Dare I say it? Sweet Dreams might be many UW's students go to spot for bubble tea. The cozy restaurant is tucked in the corner of the plaza. While it specializes in beverages, Sweet Dreams offers a rather large selection of food. For $6 to $8, you can get dumplings, steamed buns, Bahn Mi, and even grilled paninis. You can check their full menu here.

4. Williams (7.5%)

Located on the north side of the plaza, Williams offers the usual fare you would expect at a coffee joint. $10 can get you a delicious hot pressed panini (try the Roasted Veggie and Goat Cheese one, yum), a wrap, or salad with a drink. The desserts is where you want to focus your attention on however. Everything you see in that glass case is heavenly and to die for. Protip - try the sundae with the crepe. You'll thank me later.

5. Pita Factory (7.16%)

Wham, bam, thank you ma'am. Pita Factory, also located in the north side of the plaza, serves up quick, easy, and cheap pitas and sandwiches. No further explanation needed.
